This motherfucker sat on this account for two fucking years waiting to make this joke and all I can think about is how long they must have agonized thinking of the best way to deliver the punchline that they would only have one shot in their life at doing.
Sesame Street has introduced a new autistic character, and she’s a girl! They’ve also put up a bunch of videos and other resources. After reading and watching all but four videos so far, I’m really excited about the initiative. Other than the use of person-first language, there is very little I disagree with. The focus is on helping kids communicate and understand, and how autism is different, not less, although it also makes certain things more difficult. Choosing to make the new character a girl is a great choice in the face of the erasure of autistic girls promoted by corrupt organizations like Autism Speaks.
The best part is that they listened to everybody who asked them to stop working with Autism Speaks, and they partnered with ASAN (the Autistic Self Advocacy Network) instead and worked really hard to make sure all the material they put out was okay with autistic people!!
